Piece Fest Los Angeles 2012

Piece Fest Music & Street-Art Festival – LA 13th Oct 2012

Posted on 11/10/2012 by Tanya

About Piece Fest: Welcome to LA’s MUSIC & STREET-ART FESTIVAL featuring a Graffiti Battle! We are bringing together some of LA’s hottest new bands and most talented street artists to celebrate this burgeoning artistic movement.  The event will be held at The Graff Lab, an urban sanctuary for artists, kids, and young adults that opened after the Los Angeles public school district cut its after-school art programs in 2006. World famous for its graffiti and aerosol art, the Graff Lab is dedicated to providing artists with a safe space to develop their skills. At the Graff Lab artists don’t have to worry about getting harassed by the police or by gangsters; they are free to concentrate on their craft. But the Graff Lab is more than a public art space. The Graff Lab offers free tutoring, counseling, dance & music lessons to adults and kids. To support this cause, we’re throwing a street art & music festival. During the festival, we’ll be filming the pilot for a competition show about Street Art featuring celebrity judges, hosts, & performers. Some of Our performers include DJ Lethal of House of Pain & Limp Bizkit, Andre Legacy, Shifty from Crazy Town, Kev Hicks, Year of the Dragon (x-members of Fishbone), Danny Diablo, DJ C-Minus, Patience Price, YFY, Rage Area, The Public Trust, Luxury Kills, G.E.E.K., & many more TBA shortly.

About ‘The Chosen One’ TV Show: From Executive Producer David Arquette comes a graffiti based Battle created by world famous graffiti artist Kelly ‘Risk’ Graval & Corin Nemec currently titled ‘The Chosen One’. TCO is a Street Art competition that challenges two or more artists to incorporate a Major Commercial Brand, the pilot shall be Java Monster’s Logo, in a mural using their specific style. The competition will take place at Piece Fest, modeled after other Street Art & Music Festivals. There will be live performances, merchandising booths, food trucks, a public art wall, as well as an art gallery featuring World Renowned Graffiti Artists. At the end of the ten-hour event a Panel of Celebrity judges from the Arts, Entertainment, and Advertising industries will crown one of the artists THE CHOSEN ONE. Judges include Luke ‘The Dingo’ Tremabth representing the Monster brand, David Faustino, Seth ‘Shify’ Binzer, Peter Mays (Executive Director of the Los Angeles Art Association), & Kelly ‘Risk’ Graval. A special appearance will be made by Graffiti Artist Seen who will be interviewing our competitors during the Battle. The two competitors battling will be OG Abel vs. Australia’s the Massive to become TV’s Chosen One.

Wise Rebelle Graffiti

WISER  “I fell in love with graffiti after seeing the movie “Beat Street” at age 10 followed by a trip to New York at age 12 where I saw walls by TATS crew and FX crew. From then on I knew I wanted to paint Graffiti. After many years of heavy practice I Became a professional graffiti artist in 2006 with the launch of www.YourNameInGraffiti.com a custom graffiti and mural company , We continue to receive orders from all over the world including some big name celebrities. The art kept flowing and this provided designs for our functional art line “ILL Style Heroes”

“in 2009 I started bodypainting after a twist of fate and a chance meeting with one of body painting’s greats. I have since rocked an insane amount of masterpieces while traveling the world as an international instructor of body painting specializing in graffiti style. I’m also one of the founding members of GalleryML in Philadelphia, PA the worlds first collective body art gallery and ive been featured in several international Bodypainting publications. I still paint walls regularly and have the same great passion for spray paint as I always have but find myself getting more and more lost in Body painting, pioneering new techniques and pushing the limits of what the eye can be fooled into seeing by using body positioning and optical illusion to break boundaries of vision while maintaining a graffiti flava”

Posted on 05/06/2012 by MaZe

Last weekend (2-4th June) ISTHISTHEFUTURE was delighted to welcome our ‘partner in body paint’ SHRIIIMP over to Bristol where they came to join the UPFEST Urban Art festival. It was SHRIIIMP’s first time in the UK. After 2 days of painting walls, Mr Shiz (London, UK) & 2Rise (Syndey, Aus) got in the hot seat for a night of bodypainting. We were lucky enough to have some of the Bristol based  BASS HONEYS there as willing models.

ISTHISTHEFUTURE recently caught up with LA, Body Artist ’2BLOK ONE’ to ask how he entered the world of bodypainting … this is what he had to say…..
ISTHISTHEFUTURE: “Nice to meet you 2BLOK, please introduce yourself”
2BLOK: “I’m a local graffiti writer from San Fernando valley, Los Angeles and growing up in L.A. I was always intrigued by all of the art that would surround me I was always be inspired by all the murals in my neighborhood/ I never understood the exact purpose of graffiti but I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. Then the day came when I just did my part and started getting into it I grew a passion for the street, I felt free creating my style and becoming a different person, it would separate me from other people and made me unique.”
ISTHISTHEFUTURE: ” How long ago did you get started in Graffiti?”
2BLOK: “I started painting walls in ’08 and from there I started evolving my techniques and creating everything I would image in my world . As time went by I started talking to other painters from my part of the city, one of the first graffiti painters I met was K35, he’s a well known artist he took me under his wing and should me around plus in the same time he became a father figure. It took time getting accepted from well known artists. I started painting on canvases and got into characters and doing portraits but I always had graffiti behind it.”

ISTHISTHEFUTURE: “How did you make the transistion in to Graffiti BodyArt?”
2BLOK: “At around the same time I met K35 I got to know SOGR UNO, he’s a well known and upcoming body artist we became friends quickly. He introduced me to the world of body art. I Learned how to manipulate acrylic paint and using different mediums and everything that paint would stick on, specially beautiful girls. From the first time I painted a model and using their wonderful body’s as canvas made me push myself to different levels, always perfecting my body art. Every time I get a chance to do body art I try to do something different and I love going big using every part of the body I can.” “I’m always looking forward to the next body art event or photo shoot this is what I live for.”

G-KILL (France)

G-KILL’s has been taking Body Painting (Body Graffiti) to the next level. His free flowing lettering styles stand out a mile, and although often difficult to decipher, carry a touch of class to his creations. His fusion of detailed lettering and characters that appear in many of his creations, make each piece unique.
